Painter
and Poet
The ecuadorian painter Diego Gorter (phonetic for Gortaire) first was a poet.
The artistic work of this autodidact and son of a painter allows us to see
a certain mixture of colors and how they blend at the transitions of ink,
as well as create zones of accentuation and spaciousness. They recreate the
organic and chromatic effects of Lascaux and Altamira and beyond that, the
mysteriousness of nature and its reflection of light and shadow. "His
colors like his signature style are chinese, and like their arrangement in
space, they are of deep Taoist origin. The plastic space of Gorter is the
location where emptiness and fullness take turns, the Yin and Yang, the place
where these extremes oppose each other, but also communicate. Perhaps these
lines of Chuang-tzu, the taoist philosopher, will illuminate and disguise
the voyage through his colors while returning to the secret from which painting
is born: There is nothing in the beginning; the nothing has no name, from
nothing arises one thing; that one thing has no form.", Cristobal Zapata

Artistic Concept
For me, painting does not only mean expressing myself, but it is also a need
to enter into a dialogue with the viewer. The colors have their own language
and therefore their own rhythm. There are inner voices that cannot be translated
or put into words, and that is when the colors begin to speak. Abstract as
well as neofigurative painting is like speaking from both inside and outside
of oneself. My abstract paintings bring together the idea of fluidity in our
organism - its eruption as well as the vertigo it can cause. It is a form
of expression that talks about an essential movement and its smallest details
that continue on with consistent change. Within the neofigurative paintings
the body is the external expression and product of an inner movement. That
means that the body as well as the mind each have their own form of expression,
and yet are one. It is the same balance that can be found in nature. My idea
is to catch the expression of this unit without insisting on realistic forms.
The viewer of this work has the possibility of communicating and expressing
himself as he wishes during this process. The materials being used are ink
and water. I believe that these kind of materials allow for a greater spontaneity
than others. Ink is extremely expressive and its language is very delicate.
